The most noticeable difference, in the C6’s, is in the body style. Something we are back to, that we haven’t seen since 1962, no more pop up headlights.

With all of the years of engineering, through all of the technology sharing with Corvette Racing, carbon fiber body panels, aerodynamic improvements, ceramic braking advancements and unmatched horsepower, a lot of which were developed in coordination with the engineering wizards at Pratt and Millers, Corvette Racing.

From the track to the production car, it’s no wonder our pick in the C6 class is none other than the 2012 ZR1 Corvette, a radical Corvette that is unmatched in the world. Dollar for dollar this is the best sports car you can get. The 2012 ZR1, is the ultimate C6 Corvette, and is available at any Chevrolet dealership.

The radical ZR1 out performs the Dodge Viper ACR, the Nissan GTR, the Ferrari Enzo, and the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport, just to name a few, all of which carry a much higher price tag. Bottom line the ZR1 has better performance and more technology than the European exotic’s at a fraction of the cost.

ZR1 EngineWith the change from C5 to C6 came another engine change. The ZR1 was using the LS9, an all aluminum 6.2 liter small-block motor with cast sleeved cylinder walls. As always, it was the standard small-block like the 350 cubic inch engine, but with a 4.06 inch bore and a 3.62 stroke modification, it created 376 cubic inches. It has an Eaton Supercharger on top, producing a staggering 638 HP @ 6500 RPM and 604 ft. lbs of torque @3800 RPM.

This Radical Corvette engine makes the 2012 ZR1 capable of launching you from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and 0-100 mph in an amazing 6.9 seconds. How much more Radical can you get from a factory direct production car?

The ZR1 comes standard with a Z07 High Performance Package. This package consists of special wheels, tires and the Termac 6 speed transmission. It’s also equipped with Magnetic Selective Ride Control and the Launch Control with PTM technology that optimizes traction.

This C6 Corvette is definitely more than a handful, not only as you launch, but also as you go through the gears with the 6 speed close ratio transmission that sends power through a high capacity dual disc clutch.

The Radical ZR1 has a super light aluminum, carbon composite and magnesium framing, that is wrapped with fenders, hood, roof, roof pillars, fascia splitter and rocker panels made from carbon fiber. Add to this the 638 hp, 6500 RPM screaming small-block and you will reach speeds in excess of 200 MPH.

A car that can dive into turns at 100 MPH plus, and be able to stop on a dime, needs some serious rubber meeting the pavement. To satisfy these needs the ZR1 has both, light weight wheels that measure 19 inches on the front an 20 inch rims on the back, as well as road sticking Michelin PS Cup tires measuring 285/30-19, 335/25-20 respectively.

ZR1 Ceramic Disc BrakeBehind those wheels are special Brembo, carbon – ceramic disc brakes, and calipers that grip huge 15.5 inch front and 15 inch rear cross drilled slotted rotors, the largest on any production vehicle. All of this provides the fastest, and most powerful Radical Corvette that Chevrolet has ever offered. In fact, it’s so fast that the 2012 ZR1 made a blistering lap at Germany’s famed Nurburgring Racetrack in 7:19 minutes.

With this Radical C6 Corvette leaving many in awe, the only question is, what’s in store for the C7 Corvette? Guess we will see in 2014!
